What do you export?

Most freelancers, agencies and SaaS companies outside an SEZ are “Custom (DTA units)”.

Good to know

The Export Declaration Form (EDF) links an export to the payment that settles it. Your bank (the Authorised Dealer) uses it to open an entry in EDPMS and closes that entry when the money arrives.

Who files it

Goods exported through EDI ports are covered by the shipping bill. Service and software exporters declare their invoices on the EDF instead, usually once a month, within 30 days after the end of the month the invoices were raised. RBI has clarified that individuals providing occasional services abroad in a personal capacity, such as tutoring, are not covered; check with your bank if you are unsure.

What the form needs

Your PAN, GSTIN and IEC if you have one, your bank's AD code, and for each invoice: client, country, description, SAC/HSN code, currency, amount and the rupee value. Proceeds have to be realised within 9 months of the invoice date.
